How We Tested the NordicTrack Commercial X32i Treadmill

Before we dive into the many extras of the NordicTrack X32i, it’s worth mentioning that our engineers not only test the machine for several days, but also regularly assemble and demonstrate it.

This allows us to evaluate the machine’s performance over time based on user feedback.

Although the X32i is designed for commercial applications, it is intended for home use only, and the warranty does not cover commercial use. However, it certainly appears to be suitable for use in commercial environments.

    NordicTrack X32i Review

    NordicTrack Commercial X32i review

We’d like to take a closer look at the NordicTrack Commercial X32i treadmill, specifically its features. Key features, its durability, construction, and overall performance.

Let’s find out if the NordicTrack X32i is right for you.

    Functionality and Performance

First, let’s look at how well the NordicTrack X32i performs in everyday use.

    Incline and Decline

First, one of the most striking features of the X32i: its incline/decline settings, with an impressive range from -6% to a steep +40%.

For those who’ve never experienced a 40% incline on a treadmill, it feels like running uphill, and your heart immediately races.

With such a wide range of inclines, the 12 quick-adjustment buttons on the left side of the console make adjusting the angle easy. Without these buttons, manually pressing the arrow buttons to set the incline to 40% might take a while.

Even better: During an iFit workout, the incline automatically adjusts to suit the workout or the terrain you’re running on.

The NordicTrack X32i’s robust construction is impressive, remaining stable and stable even at high speeds, even at maximum incline.

As for incline and decline features, if you’re looking for a treadmill with a steep incline, the X32i is the way to go.

    Speed

Because the NordicTrack X32i is a commercial machine, it reaches a fairly high top speed of 19 km/h. However, the previous X32i model from 2019 reached a top speed of 22 km/h.

However, the top speed of all NordicTrack treadmills is reduced to 19 km/h. This is likely due to health and safety concerns, and 19 km/h is more than sufficient, especially on such steep inclines.

Sure, some treadmills may reach higher top speeds, but let’s face it: Unless you’re an Olympic sprinter, you’ll probably never run anywhere near that fast.

For home use and even professional training purposes, the NordicTrack X32i should be more than fast enough to get you sweating.

    Cushioning

What we particularly appreciate about the NordicTrack X32i is the so-called Reflex cushioning. In this case, the Reflex cushioning consists of four separate 7.5 cm springs beneath the high-quality composite running surface.

These springs reduce the shock and impact load on the runner, thus ensuring a significantly more comfortable running experience.

When it comes to a comfortable running experience, this treadmill certainly delivers. Unless you’re particularly heavy on your feet, your knees and hips should hardly be stressed. The treadmill undoubtedly provides a comfortable running experience.

It’s also worth noting that the shock absorption promotes a natural running motion. In addition, a reflex system provides a little more momentum with each takeoff, so you don’t lose energy or momentum.

    NordicTrack X32i Review

    Handlebars and Sensors

Many will appreciate the NordicTrack X32i, and we like it too: It features a triple handrail. Of course, it has the classic rails like any other treadmill: the horizontal side and front handrails that you can hold onto.

What makes the NordicTrack X32i special are the so-called Sled Push Bars. These are special, vertically mounted, shoulder-width-wide handlebars that mimic pushing a sled.

They’re a great addition to any treadmill and can significantly enhance your workout experience and offer additional benefits. In short, the Sled Push Bars make workouts a bit more challenging and add a whole new dimension to your training program.

Regarding the handlebars on this treadmill, it’s worth mentioning that they no longer have touch sensors for heart rate. Previous models all had touch sensors for measuring heart rate and other metrics, but these are no longer available.

Nordictrack forgoes touch sensors because they are generally inaccurate and recommends chest strap sensors for more accurate readings.

Some may consider this a disadvantage, but we don’t. Since they add extra cost, these are relatively useless. Chest strap monitors are significantly more accurate and relatively inexpensive.

    Size and Portability

One of the most important things about this professional treadmill is its enormous weight. Even in the box, it weighs 209 kg (460 lbs). Therefore, please ensure that the delivery team unpacks, carries, or assembles the machine.

Below is a picture of the box in our warehouse to give you an idea of the size.

You certainly wouldn’t buy this treadmill if you have limited space.

Unlike other models, it also doesn’t have any special folding or compacting features. This treadmill is an absolute beast, and you need space for it. You probably don’t want it in the middle of your living room.

The big advantage of a treadmill this large, however, is that you also have plenty of space. Its large platform allows you to sprint as fast as you want and spread your legs wide apart without any problem. It’s also more than wide enough to easily accommodate tall people.

However, it does have two small wheels on the front for added mobility, so if you need to move it short distances from one side of the room to the other, that’s no problem. However, with a weight of 170 kg, even that’s quite difficult.

Once you’ve set up the unit, it’s best to leave it stationary, as transporting it is quite cumbersome.

    Noise Level

Many people worry about the noise level when purchasing a treadmill. This is especially true if you live with others or in an apartment building, where noise levels are a factor. However, a major advantage of this treadmill is that it’s not too loud.

Admittedly, it does generate some noise, especially at top speed, but that’s unavoidable. However, the cushioning of the running surface is more than sufficient to largely dampen the impact and thumping sounds with each step.

Yes, it’s still a bit loud, and anyone nearby will hear that someone is running. This is especially true because the motor also hums a bit, but that’s not a problem. Compared to commercial treadmills, we wouldn’t call this one particularly quiet, but we wouldn’t call it particularly loud either. In that respect, it’s rather moderate.

Note that the treadmill has a two-speed fan, which can be a bit loud. However, we found that you can barely hear the fan above the treadmill itself.

Yes, the machine has built-in speakers, which is especially useful if you want to stream your favorite music. They’re more than loud enough to drown out the running noise, the motor, and even the fan.

We really like this feature because, while most treadmills have speakers, they’re not good enough to really hear your desired music. However, this isn’t the case here; as far as commercial treadmills go, this one has some of the best speakers around.

If noise is a major concern, studio bikes like the NordicTrack S27i might be worth considering.

    Build Quality

Now that we know how well the NordicTrack X32i performs, let’s take a closer look at the overall build quality.

    4.25 HP Motor

As for the motor, this machine has a 4.25 HP motor, which is about as powerful as any commercial treadmill. It’s more than powerful enough to propel the machine to top speeds of 19 km/h.

Of course, the motor is also powerful enough to allow users to run at full incline, which, as you may recall, is 40% on this machine.

What’s special about this motor is that it ensures smooth running even at top speed and maximum incline. Sometimes you realize that a motor isn’t powerful enough.

In addition, large 2.5-inch rollers ensure power is transferred from the motor to the treadmill.

Thanks to these large rollers, the NordicTrack X32i feels extremely smooth.

    Large Running Deck

The X32i’s running deck measures a generous 55 cm x 165 cm. If that’s not so important to you, this is the ideal size for most people, even taller individuals training for athletic competitions. At 165 cm long, even taller individuals should be able to take their longest strides with ease.

One reason for the generous space is the placement of the motor at the bottom of the platform. This eliminates a large motor cover or hood over the belt, creating more room.

Also noteworthy is the treadmill’s soft texture, preventing you from slipping and falling if you work up a sweat.

    The Frame

In terms of construction and durability, the frame is another important point. As mentioned above, the maximum weight capacity of this treadmill is 136 kg, thanks in part to the sturdy, powder-coated steel supports.

Among commercial treadmills, this is one of the most robust on the market. This is also thanks to the two side steel supports and the triple cross supports, which provide additional stability. Overall, you don’t have to worry about durability with the NordicTrack X32i.

NordicTrack trusts the X32i’s frame and offers a lifetime warranty.

    31.5-inch Touchscreen

One of the best features last: The large 31.5-inch touchscreen with iFit support ensures an immersive workout experience.

It’s by far the largest screen we’ve ever seen on a treadmill and gives the X32i a special wow factor.

The screen is relatively easy to use thanks to its simple layout, yet it clearly displays all your workout information.

With the purchase of the X32i, you get a 30-day free trial of an iFit subscription to try out the interactive workouts.

iFit gives you access to a library of thousands of workouts—not just for running. You can also join other classes like yoga and strength training.

The iFit workouts also automatically adjust your incline and speed to help you get the most out of your workout. The incline even adjusts to the terrain of your route.

The varied workouts combined with the large screen are motivating and make training much more enjoyable, making the time fly by.

However, after the 30-day trial period, you’ll need to purchase a monthly subscription if you want to continue using iFit. The app also can’t be used with other apps, which is a bit frustrating.

However, iFit is one of the best fitness apps on the market, and we highly recommend you give it a try.

    Manual Mode

If you don’t want to subscribe to iFit, you don’t need an active subscription. Manual mode lets you simply exercise at your own pace and gives you access to a range of built-in iFit workouts.

So you’re not completely locked out if you don’t want to subscribe. Especially given the price of this machine, requiring a subscription would be a big red flag.

    Controls

As mentioned, you can quickly adjust the treadmill speed and incline using the quick-adjust buttons on either side of the display.

Below the display are also large up and down dials for small adjustments to speed and incline. So, if you’re running a little too fast, you can easily slow down.

The console also features two built-in fans to keep you cool while running.

You’ll also appreciate the two large pockets directly behind the display, where you can store a water bottle, keys, phone, or other items during your workout.

    NordicTrack X32i Review – Conclusion

The NordicTrack X32i treadmill is a true powerhouse that any professional runner would be proud to own. While it certainly costs a pretty penny as one of the more expensive treadmills on the market, it’s also one of the better ones.

The frame and overall build quality are as good as it gets, combined with high-end performance, plenty of great features, and a level of comfort that simply can’t be beat.
