I bought Skims... and WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD!? Our review & What's worth it... & W

Kelly Bertrand and Bel Crawford decided to buy Skims – are they worth the hype? How do the sizes fit? And should you buy them too?

Kelly's story:

It was a moment that sparked equal parts joy and despair. Joy because when I put on my Skims bodysuit and saw how puffed out my belly was, I was totally thrilled, and despair because I knew I’d just given $100—and probably more now—to Kim Kardashian. Oh, Kelly, what have you done!

But in my defense: The universe practically made me buy Skims. My algorithm was relentless—I couldn’t open my phone without seeing an ad. And besides, my jeans are, um, uncomfortably tight because they obviously shrank in the dryer. Obviously.

In a moment of weakness, three roses deep (could THAT explain the tight jeans…), I bit the bullet and ordered a Skims Sculpting Thong Bodysuit.

In a remarkably short time—I ordered on a Thursday and it arrived on a Tuesday, and that was over Easter AND it came from the US, so seriously impressive there, and the shipping was free—I had a leotard in my hot little hands that looked like it belonged to a Cabbage Patch doll.

But when I put it on, I couldn’t help but marvel at my body. Your girl was gone, darling—the bump was there, the waist was defined, the breasts were supported. The jeans in question suddenly had room—ROOM—between the waistband and my belly. THAT is an Easter miracle I can approve of.

I posted on Instagram that I bought Skims and loved it, and I’ve never received so much feedback from my friends. Either they confirmed that they also bought and loved Skims, or they asked for size and fit tips (FYI: I wear a size 14 and am a L).

So, if so many of my friends are curious, I figured the Capsule readers would be too. Now I’m turning to our Skims expert Bel, who bought a few things from Kimmy K. She has a buying guide—and explains what NOT to waste your money on.

Bel's Expert Tips:

As I’m writing this, I get a notification that there’s a new episode of “The Kardashians” on Disney+. Kimberly, are you watching?

My Skims #journey began when I succumbed to the purchase of the viral Skims dress – I present this dress as my first Skims option, which I believe is absolutely worth the money:

WHAT TO BUY:

The Soft Lounge Long Slip Dress went viral for a reason. It fits in all the right places and has thousands of reviews raving about its flattering fit – as soon as I put it on, I was dancing around like Kimmy K. You can dress it up or down, the fabric feels soft against your skin, it’s comfortable, and let me tell you, it looks chic!

There are a number of imitations of the viral dress – I’ve inspected a few of them as the self-proclaimed quality inspector that I am, but the quality isn’t as good, and you’d probably buy the original anyway.

With the onset of the colder months, I naturally decided I needed the long-sleeved version as well (it didn’t take much, just a late-night shopping trip. Aren’t those the best dopamine hits?!).

Like Kelly, and despite my boyfriend’s warning not to give my money to “that woman,” I caved and bought a shapewear bodysuit. I opted for the briefs because I didn’t want to risk them being too short and wearing a thong (we’ve all been there, right?!). When I unpacked it, it looked like a baby jumpsuit! But don’t worry, as if by magic, the fabric stretches perfectly when you put it on. I’m considering buying it in nude, too, because a girl needs different options depending on her outfit color!

WHAT NOT TO BUY:

In my experience (and my opinion), you can save money with the cotton jersey T-shirt at Skims. It fits really well, but pilling started to form under the armpits after a few washes, and the fabric quality doesn’t justify the expensive US dollar to NZ dollar conversion rate. My mom told me to wash my clothes on the delicate cycle, and this shirt didn’t go in the dryer. I was surprised, because everyone raves about this T-shirt and the famous “Fits Everybody” T-shirt!

I’m torn because I wanted to love the cotton rib boxer briefs so much, and I do—but I think the fabric quality isn’t up to scratch. Not the $62 price tag. (I know, I’m embarrassed, too.) My favorite TikTok creator wears the matching set with a tank top as pajamas, which made me want them. They’re comfortable, but the thigh seams aren’t stretchy. There are the Soft Lounge boxers in a softer ribbed fabric.

So, despite my hesitation to join the Kardashian empire, will I buy more? Probably. I’d love to try their bras and underwear, but

I’m still not sure if it’s worth spending $30 each on seamless panties when you can get a three-pack for $14 at Kmart and they’re really good.

A few tips:

– Buy directly from the Skims website

– Free and fast shipping!

– Sizes – the size chart is really helpful and ranges from XXS to 5X. My trick for finding the right size when shopping online is to compare the size chart of a brand whose size you know. I recommend comparing the size chart of an activewear brand you wear when buying Skims. I bought the shapewear in size S/M and all the other items in size S. I thought I needed a M for some models since I have a DD cup, but the sizes are generous; my tip with the size chart didn’t disappoint!

Conclusion:

So, is Skims worth the hype? For us – yes, with a few caveats. From the shaping shapewear that works wonders (and suddenly makes jeans look wider) to the viral Soft Lounge Dress that flatters like no other – Skims delivers in terms of comfort, fit, and style. While not every piece is a winner – the cotton jersey T-shirts and boxer shorts left a lot to be desired in terms of quality for their price – the standout pieces more than make up for it. Whether you’re curvy, petite, or somewhere in between – the wide range of sizes and stretchy fabrics make Skims affordable. Consider your investment carefully, follow the size chart carefully, and maybe skip basics that won’t last. Ultimately, it turns out that Kim Kardashian really knew what she was doing – and we (reluctantly) agree.
