My Honest Review of the Hill House Home Nap Dress
The Hill House Nap Dress has become extremely popular in recent years—and for good reason! It’s versatile, flattering, and comfortable, so it’s naturally garnered a lot of attention. I’ve had my eye on these dresses for a while, but only recently purchased my first HHH dress. It’s definitely a luxury item for me! Luckily, I was able to use a discount code that finally allowed me to purchase it, and I’m so glad I did. Read on to learn more about my honest review of the Nap Dress!
$20 OFF THE HILL HOUSE NAP DRESS
My Order
I ordered two of the classic Ellie Nap Dresses—one in navy blue and one in botanical green—with the intention of returning the one I didn’t like as much. And, of course, both were beautiful! I love the smocked details on the bodice and straps. The navy Ellie is a must-have that I can imagine wearing in so many different ways, and the pattern on the green Botanical Ellie is stunning. It definitely makes a statement!
Pairing Tips
To make these pieces worthwhile for me, I had to be able to imagine wearing them in a variety of ways. This was easy because there’s so much inspiration on @hillhousehome and under the tag #napdressnation! In the warmer months, sandals or sneakers are a no-brainer. When the temperatures drop, pairing them with cardigans or turtlenecks proves how versatile these dresses are. I love that I don’t have to part with these pieces even when the weather gets cooler!
I recently wore the navy Ellie to an Ole Miss football game with white sneakers and the green Botanical Ellie to church with sandals and additional accessories. Both combinations made me feel beautiful and put-together—exactly what I want in my outfits! Because they’re so versatile, they’re quickly becoming my go-to dresses!
FIT & SIZE
The website recommends sizing down, and that’s true! I ordered both dresses in size S, and they fit well. I could have maybe even gone down an XS, but I like having a little more room. (If I really wanted a sample, it’s nice to know I can size down if needed!)
FABRIC & QUALITY
The material of both dresses is 100% cotton. It’s very soft and breathable—perfect for the heat and humidity in the South! I liked that neither dress was sheer, which I thought made it even more comfortable. No slip necessary!
Nap Dresses are also available in other fabrics. The Fall 2023 collection features beautiful crepe, cotton, and novelty fabrics. Other textiles like tulle, lace, and silk are also available in the same gorgeous silhouettes! Perfect for more formal occasions! *Note: Others have mentioned that anything labeled “sheer” is very sheer. Therefore, I recommend wearing skin-colored underwear with them!
These dresses are also easy to care for—I washed them both with similar garments in cold water and dried them flat. After a few steamings, they look like new! I also recommend folding smocked dresses over a hanger instead of hanging them by the straps to preserve the beautiful smocking.
An update to my review: I’ve been part of #napdressnation for almost a year now, and I can honestly say these pieces are some of my favorites! I especially love that I can wear them for almost any occasion with the right accessories. The prices have gone up since my first purchase, but there are special sales every year where you can save $20 with a discount code. My favorite dresses are the black poplin Ellie dress, the pink botanical Ellie dress (a similar style is available here!), and the navy tartan dress (an annual holiday collection!). The black Ellie is my most versatile, and the tartan Ellie dress is so soft, playful, and unique for the holidays!
I also recently tried the new crepe fabric and love how comfortable it is! I’ll definitely be wearing it often because it’s wrinkle-resistant and breathable! Hill House has expanded its range a lot in the last year—I hope to try another Hill House style soon!
CONCLUSION
I think the decision to buy a nap dress (or not) comes down to personal preference. If you don’t like “day dresses” and can’t imagine wearing them often, it might not be for you!
